Lettings
Our 7.9-acre site comprises 204 individual plots, the majority of which are approximately 125 sq. metres in size (or 30′ x 45′ for those who prefer).
There are some slightly larger plots, at 175 sq. metres, and we do offer half plots to those who do not feel able to take on a larger size. In fact, a half-plot is a great way to start if you are new to allotmenteering and want to see how you manage.
Renewals take place at the end of the year, which means we often have availability in January. But you are welcome to visit us on any Sunday morning between 10.30am and 12.30pm to have a look around and discuss your options.
If you would like to apply for any available plots or join our waiting list, please complete this short online form, and we’ll be in touch as soon as a suitable plot becomes available – typically people don’t have to wait too long to join us.
Once you are allocated a plot, there’s a short online application form to complete, as well as the rental charge and key deposit to be paid, ideally via bank transfer. You are then ready to get started.
If you are taking on a plot for the first time, please don’t hesitate to ask for advice and guidance, either from other plotholders or the volunteers in The Trading Shed. The internet is full of useful information, especially from the RHS and those who champion the increasingly popular “No Dig” method, such as Charles Dowding.
Don’t worry if it takes you some time to get the plot under control – you can always keep down weeds by covering part of the plot until you are ready to work it. We suggest that you don’t spend large amounts of time making raised beds, paths, compost heaps, benches etc. at the expense of getting your crops going – nothing will motivate you more than sampling your home-grown fruit and vegetables, not to mention the flowers that will please the bees, brighten up the plot and decorate your home.
Current plot rentals are:
175 sq. metre plot £56 per annum
125 sq. metre plot £40 per annum
63 sq. metre half-plot £20 per annum
